Dairy-Free: If you’re lactose intolerant or vegan, then swap the butter with vegan butter such as Earth Balance. Additionally, replace milk with either water or any plant-based milk like almond, soy, or coconut milk.

Gluten-Free: All of the ingredients in this recipe are gluten-free! Ensure that you use gluten-free powdered sugar and vanilla extract. This version is perfect for those who worry about gluten in their diet.

Keto/Low Carb: Replace the powdered sugar with swerve confectioners sweetener instead of sugar. This will not only make the frosting low carb but also keto-friendly.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

A little frosting never hurt nobody!
A little frosting never hurt nobody!

Listen up, my food-loving friends! If you’re anything like me, you know that baking is not only about the hot-from-the-oven goodies, but also about the convenience of having something tasty on hand whenever a craving strikes. With this dairy-free frosting recipe, you can whip up a batch and store it for later use.

To make things easy, once you’ve made the recipe, transfer it to a bowl with an airtight lid and refrigerate. This way you’ll be able to store the frosting without compromising its quality or consistency. It can last in the refrigerator for up to one week!

When you’re ready to indulge in your freshly frosted goods again, remove the frosting from the fridge and let it stand at room temperature until it softens enough to be whipped again. You can either mix it by hand with a whisk or use an electric mixer for best results.

It’s important to remember that if the frosting is too hard to spread after refrigerating, adding a tablespoon or two of warm water (or non-dairy milk) will do the trick. But don’t go overboard with adding too much liquid; just add a small amount in intervals until it reaches your desired consistency.

And there you have it – easy peasy! Now you can enjoy delicious frosted sugar cookies, cupcakes, or even Danish whenever your heart desires, without having to start from scratch every time. Don’t forget – this recipe is dairy-free and gluten-free; so indulge guilt-free!

Tips for Perfect Results

This frosting is the cherry on top of your favorite baked goods.
This frosting is the cherry on top of your favorite baked goods.

Now, let me share some tips to ensure you get a perfect frosting every time.

Firstly, ensure that your butter or vegan butter is at room temperature. This will make it easier to mix and will give your frosting a smooth and creamy texture.

Secondly, sift the powdered sugar before adding it to the mixture. This will prevent lumps from forming and create a smooth consistency in the frosting.

Thirdly, if you want a dairy-free frosting, you can use Earth Balance instead of butter. It has a similar texture to butter and will give your frosting the same thickness and creaminess.

When preparing this recipe for low-carb or keto-friendly recipes, use low-carb powdered sugar substitutes available in the market instead of regular powdered sugar. This helps in cutting down carbohydrates from the recipe significantly.

Lastly, I suggest using vanilla extract instead of imitation vanilla. Real vanilla extract will add a rich and authentic flavor to your frosting that imitation vanilla cannot match.

Follow these tips, and you’ll have perfect results with every batch of frosting!

Frosting for Cookies, Muffins and Danish (Can Be Dairy Free) Recipe

I got this from the Land O'Lakes web site. This is what I use for Pumpkin Muffins Recipe #12521 and Roll-Out Cookies Recipe #19653. Add what ever food coloring you like for the cookies. I've also frozen what I haven't used. You may need to add a drop or two of milk to smooth it out after it thaws. # of servings is a guess. *I have also used this to decorate flag cookies. To make the lines I added another 1-2 tablespoons of milk so that the frosting sort of ran off of the spatula. Then I put it squeeze bottles to apply to the cookies.
