Gathering the Ingredients and Preheating the Oven

Before getting started with the recipe, make sure to preheat your oven to 350°F. You should have all your ingredients ready and measured beforehand so nothing slows down the process.

Melt the Butter

The first step is to melt 1/4 cup of butter in a saucepan over low heat until it becomes golden brown in color. Alternatively, use a microwave-safe dish and heat the butter in 30-second intervals until it’s fully melted.

Whisk Together Milk, Eggs, and Sugar

Now you can grab a large bowl and whisk together 1 cup of milk, 1 egg, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.

Add Flour Blend

In a separate bowl, mix together an 1 1/4 cups of gluten-free flour blend using your desired ingredients. I recommend using almond flour or rice flour as alternatives.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Next, slowly mix the flour blend into the bowl containing the wet mixture and stir them together until you have formed a thick batter with no lumps.

Add Apples

While keeping aside some for later use, add diced cooking apples peeled and sliced 3/4 inch thick along with a cup of mild cheddar cheese , and half a cup of raisins into the batter mixture.

Pour Mixture in Baking Dish

Finally, pour this apple-cheddar mixture into a greased 2-quart baking dish. Then top it with previously kept sliced apples mixed with 1 tbsp of lemon juice and sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar all over the top.

Bake Until Golden Brown

Bake in preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream as an option for those who want to add an extra special touch.

Substitutions and Variations

This gluten-free cheddar apple pudding recipe offers a lot of room for variation, making it perfect for those who like to experiment in the kitchen. You can easily substitute or add ingredients to suit your taste preferences.

Instead of mild cheddar cheese, you can use sharp cheddar cheese or any other hard cheese that you prefer. If you’re looking for a dairy-free option, try using vegan cheese, such as Daiya or Violife.

Swap out raisins for dried cranberries or apricots if you prefer a slightly tangy flavor or add some chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts for an additional crunch.

If you don’t have cooking apples, feel free to use any apple variety you have on hand such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, preferably ones with tart flavor to balance the sweetness.

To make this recipe sweeter, increase the amount of sugar used. Alternatively, reduce the amount of sugar and instead drizzle honey over the top after baking.

If you’re looking for a savory twist, try adding diced onions and cooked bacon bits in between the layers of apple and bread to make Apple Bacon Cheddar Bread Pudding. Another option is substituting bread with grated potatoes to make an onion galette that goes well with grilled cheese.

No matter which substitution or variation you choose, this gluten-free cheddar apple pudding will still come out rich and delicious. Experiment with different flavors and ingredients to make it uniquely yours!

This gluten-free cheddar apple pudding is a perfect dessert for any gathering or occasion. This dish has a delightful balance of flavors and textures from the sliced apples, mild cheddar cheese, and raisins. The combination of mild cheddar cheese and apples provides an enjoyable savory note that complements the sweetness from sugar and raisins.

This pudding is best served warm and can be paired with a variety of beverages. You could opt for a hot cup of tea or coffee to offset the sweetness or serve it alongside some chilled white wine for a refreshing finish. This dish works beautifully as an afternoon snack or as part of a scrumptious brunch menu.

If you want to take it up a notch, try pairing this pudding with some caramelized onion galette or some cheesecake bars to achieve a more substantial meal. Also, you could pair it with other apple-based desserts like apple crisp or apple pie to make an all-apple menu.

Tip: A good way to elevate your presentation game is by serving your pudding with whipped cream or even ice cream to provide some extra creamy goodness to the dish.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

Preparing meals in advance can be a total lifesaver, especially when you are running behind with your daily schedule. The good news is that this gluten-free cheddar apple pudding recipe can be made ahead of time and stored for later use without sacrificing its delicious taste.

To make-ahead, prepare the recipe completely as instructed using an ovenproof baking dish. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. When ready to bake, remove the plastic wrap and allow the pudding to come to room temperature on the counter before placing it in the oven.

Storing leftovers is also a breeze with this recipe. First, let the pudding cool down to room temperature before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze any leftovers in a freezer-safe container for up to two months. Be sure to thaw the pudding in the refrigerator overnight and reheat it in your microwave or oven until heated through.

When reheating, it’s best to reheat single-serving sizes rather than reheating large portions all at once, as this tends to yield better results. For microwaving, transfer one serving per microwave-safe dish, then heat on high for about 30 seconds. In contrast, for oven reheating, preheat your oven at 350°F and bake covered until heated through.

Overall, with proper storage and reheating techniques, you’ll enjoy this gluten-free cheddar apple pudding recipe beyond its freshest state, making it a perfect option for weekdays or meal prep days.

Tips for Perfect Results

A deliciously healthy and wholesome dessert that is suitable for all occasions
A deliciously healthy and wholesome dessert that is suitable for all occasions

Now that you’ve got an idea of how to make a gluten-free Cheddar Apple Pudding, let’s talk about some tips that can help you get perfect results every time.

One of the most critical factors for pudding success is the texture. One way to ensure your pudding has the right texture is by using sliced apples of uniform thickness. Thick apple slices might have a more difficult time soaking in the pudding mixture, while ultra-thin slices may disintegrate from the liquid. I recommend using a mandoline or slicing with a sharp knife on a cutting board for consistent sizes.

Don’t forget to melt butter before adding it to the mixture to help keep your pudding moist and tender. Cold butter won’t mix into the custard as well and could leave pockets of dryness.

Be careful not to overbake your pudding because it could end up too dry or burnt around the edges. As a general rule of thumb, bake until the top is crispy and golden-brown but remove it from the oven when there’s still a bit of jiggle in the center. This means it’s set but will remain smooth and creamy instead of curdled and lumpy.

Lastly, Let your pudding cool before cutting into it; this will help it hold together better so it doesn’t collapse during serving.

By following these tips, you’ll nail this gluten-free Cheddar Apple Pudding every time.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, the Gluten-Free Cheddar Apple Pudding Recipe is a delicious and healthy dessert option that you won’t want to miss. By using gluten-free flour and mild cheddar cheese, this recipe is sure to please everyone at your next gathering or family dinner.

With its warm and comforting flavors, this pudding is perfect for autumn evenings or cold winter nights. You’ll love the combination of sweet raisins and tart cooking apples, all brought together with a creamy custard base.
