  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 tbsp gluten-free all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Yukon Gold potatoes are great for this recipe because they hold their shape well during cooking, but feel free to use another variety like Russet. The onion and garlic add flavor depth while the almond milk is a perfect substitute for dairy milk. The gluten-free flour is used as a thickener to create a rich and decadent sauce. Don’t skip on the salt and black pepper as they bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients. – Not a fan of ham? That’s cool! You can easily swap it out with bacon or skip meat altogether.

– You can experiment with adding different types of veggie into the scalloped potato mixture: asparagus, carrots, mushrooms, or bell peppers will work great. Just chop them up into small pieces and layer them between the potato slices.

– Spice things up by adding red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to give your dish a little kick.

– Want something lighter for your summer cookout? Try using sweet potatoes instead of Yukon Golds for a sweeter and healthier variation.

No matter what variation you choose, don’t forget to adjust cooking times accordingly based on the ingredient modifications that you’ve made. Have fun mixing and matching – the possibilities are endless!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

 You'll never believe it's gluten-free and dairy-free!
You’ll never believe it’s gluten-free and dairy-free!

Alright, let’s talk about prepping ahead for your meal. One of the best things about this gluten-free and dairy-free scalloped potatoes recipe is that it can be made ahead of time, stored and reheated for later – if you even have any leftovers that is!

Here’s what you need to know. You can assemble the dish completely, cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake. This means that you can have dinner on the table quickly without feeling overwhelmed during rush hour.

To store, make sure to let the dish cool completely before wrapping it up and placing it in the fridge. Store it for up to 3 days without any issues.

When reheating, I recommend taking it out of the fridge about 30 minutes before baking to bring it back to room temperature. This ensures more even heating throughout your dish. Then preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), removing the plastic wrap or aluminum foil as needed and placing the cold scalloped potatoes in the preheated oven. Bake for about 15-20 minutes until heated through.

Now, if you have leftovers and don’t want to re-bake them or you’re in a hurry with no access to an oven but want that creamy comforting texture, there’s no shame in microwaving! Scoop out a portion into a microwave-safe dish and cover loosely with a lid, paper towel or microwave-safe wrap. Heat on high power for about 1 minute, stirring midway through until heated through though keep an eye on it closely as microwave ovens vary.

You may find that after reheating the potatoes lose some of their creaminess but they will still taste fantastic just like out of the oven. Enjoy your delicious gluten-free dairy-free scalloped potatoes without worrying about time constraints!

Tips for Perfect Results

A classic dish made healthier without compromising on flavor.
A classic dish made healthier without compromising on flavor.

Let me tell you, nothing beats the comfort of a classic Scalloped Potatoes recipe, but making them extra special when you have to go with the dietary restrictions such as gluten-free or dairy-free can be intimidating. Don’t worry, though; just because you have to make some changes does not mean that the final dish will be any less delicious! Here are some essential tips to keep in mind for perfect Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Scalloped Potatoes Recipe every time.

First things first, choosing the right type of potatoes is crucial. Yukon Gold potatoes work best for this recipe since they are high in starch and low in moisture, which helps create a creamy texture. Make sure to slice them thinly and uniformly to achieve even cooking and allow the flavors to blend together.

Secondly, don’t forget to preheat your oven! Preheating ensures that your dish starts cooking immediately, which will reduce overall baking time while still allowing the ingredients to cook thoroughly. This step also helps avoid undercooked or overcooked potatoes.

The next tip I have is for adding flavor: garlic and onion are your friends when it comes to scalloped potatoes. Minced garlic cloves and chopped onions add layers of flavor to the dish that complement the starchy potatoes well. Sauteing onions in olive oil or butter till softened really takes it up a notch!

When it comes to dairy-free substitutes, there are many options available nowadays, such as coconut milk or almond milk. However, not all substitutes behave like dairy in recipes. One option that works well is using non-dairy cream cheese mixed with non-dairy milk in the same proportion as heavy cream. The right substitution can replicate the creamy texture that dairy would provide.

Lastly, It can be tempting to rush through gratin browning it at high temperature but be gentle with this recipe – this one needs time! Keeping a low temp while baking ensures even cooking throughout while allowing the potatoes in the center to cook through without drying out the edges.

Follow these tips, and your Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Scalloped Potatoes will turn out perfectly and remain creamy and comforting, filling your kitchen with a warm, welcoming aroma!
