Step 1: Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C Fan/Gas Mark 4.

Preheat your oven to ensure you’ll get that perfect golden crunch in your gluten-free brandy snaps. Your oven should reach its desired temperature before you start mixing the ingredients.

Step 2: Prepare the cookie sheet.

Use a piece of parchment paper to line your baking sheets. This will help your brandy snap baskets from sticking and make it easier for you to transfer them afterward.

Step 3: Mix the ingredients together.

Mix the following ingredients together in a bowl:
– 50 g unsalted butter
– 50 g light brown sugar
– 50 g golden syrup
– 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
– 70 g gluten-free plain flour

Stir well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Step 4: Pipe the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Fill your piping bag affixed with a nozzle with the mixture and then pipe it into small balls onto parchment paper.

Step 5: Bake until done.

Bake them for about 10 minutes until dark brown, then remove them from the oven (use mittens, be careful not to burn yourself) and let them sit for just under a minute before shaping.

Step 6: Shape into brandy snap biscuits.

Quickly but gently loosen them from the tray using a spatula or knife; lift one, pliable side up, and place it over an egg cup or jar bottom so that it forms a round shape – this will serve as your base; gently curl overhangs around rim for decoration – these golden curls will form handles when cooled and can be used as a dipping sauce holder.

Step 7: Let cool, then fill with cream.

You should let your brandy snaps cool before filling them with cream. Use a good quality whipped cream and simply spoon it inside the brandy snap baskets.

Step 8: Enjoy!

Serve the gluten-free brandy snaps as is, or after they’ve been filled in with the whipped cream. You can also sprinkle some icing powder on top for a flair of festivity.

Enjoy your sweet little snap cookies!

Are you looking to make some customizations or substitutions to this gluten-free brandy snaps recipe? Here are a few ideas to try:

– Vegan Brandy Snaps: This recipe can easily be made vegan by using coconut oil or vegan butter instead of regular butter. You can also replace the whipped cream filling with a non-dairy alternative like coconut cream or cashew cream.

– Gluten-Free Flour: Our recipe calls for gluten-free flour, but you can also use regular flour if you don’t need the recipe to be gluten-free.

– Sweeteners: While we love the flavor of brown sugar and golden syrup, you can substitute them with other sweeteners such as maple syrup, honey, or agave nectar. Just keep in mind that these substitutions may affect the texture and taste of the brandy snaps.

– Spices: Looking for more spice in your life? You can add some cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice to the dough along with or instead of ground ginger.

– Lemon Juice: A small amount of lemon juice brings a bright, tangy flavor to the brandy snaps. However, you can omit it if desired.

– Basket Shape: While our recipe makes traditional round brandy snap baskets, you could also experiment with different shapes and sizes. Try making long sticks for dipping in chocolate, cones for holding ice cream, or even heart shapes for Valentine’s Day!

Serving and Pairing

Nobody will ever guess that these delicious treats are gluten-free.
Nobody will ever guess that these delicious treats are gluten-free.

These Gluten Free Brandy Snaps are best served when fresh out of the oven so they are still crispy and tender. You can let them cool on the baking sheet for a minute before removing them with a spatula and shaping them around a wooden spoon handle to create snap baskets. Once they’re filled with whipped cream, they become irresistible.

For an extra touch of decadence, dust them with a little powdered sugar and drizzle some golden syrup on top. Serve them as a dessert after a meal or as a sweet treat for your guests during the Christmas holidays. They pair perfectly with coffee or tea, but also make a great dessert compliment after dinner parties or shared at potlucks.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, fill these brandy snap baskets with traditionally made whipped cream that has been lightly sweetened and flavored with vanilla extract. You can also add some fresh fruit like raspberries or strawberries on top to balance the sweetness of the brandy snaps.

Whether you enjoy them plain or filled with your favorite toppings, these brandy snaps are sure to please every time. So why not jump on this old-time favorite and make this gluten-free version in your own kitchen for the next special occasion?

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

A little bit of brandy gives these snaps an irresistible flavor.
A little bit of brandy gives these snaps an irresistible flavor.

These gluten-free brandy snaps are perfect for making ahead of time and storing. In fact, the longer they sit, the better they become! They can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.

If you want them to stay crispy, then store them separately from any filling or decoration until right before serving. For example, if you are planning to fill them with whipped cream and strawberries, store the snap baskets in one container and the filling in another.

Reheating is not recommended as it may cause the snaps to lose their texture and become chewy. However, if you have to reheat, place them in a preheated 350°F oven for 1-2 minutes or until warm.

Remember, these brandy snaps are delicate and should be handled with care when storing or transporting. With proper handling and storage, your gluten-free brandy snaps will last long enough for you to savor each and every bite!

Creating the perfect Brandy Snaps is an art in itself, given the delicate balance of ingredients and precise culinary technique involved. Here are some tried and tested tips for achieving picture-perfect Gluten-free Brandy Snaps every time:

1. Ensure that your oven is preheated to its exact temperature before baking the brandy snaps baskets. This helps in keeping the structure and texture of the snaps perfect, and stops them from going soft.

2. Keep a close eye on your brandy snap baskets while baking as every oven is different. You don’t want to over-bake them or leave them in the oven too short that they don’t retain their shape or color.

3. To prevent the brandy snap mixture from sticking to the parchment paper or silicone mat, which can cause them to distort during baking, use a non-stick baking spray or lightly grease it with butter.

4. Work quickly with the hot, pliable brandy snap mixture when forming the snap baskets to get the shapes you want before they set.

5. Use a fine-mesh strainer to sift your gluten-free flour thoroughly and ensure that there are no clumps left in the mixture. This aids in making your batter lighter, fluffier, and easier to pour into shape.

6. Soften your butter at room temperature before adding it to the mix as this will allow it to blend more easily with other ingredients, resulting in evenly baked perfect snaps.

7. Golden syrup is crucial in achieving that signature chewy texture of these gluten-free Brandy Snaps. Don’t be tempted to substitute it with any other sweetener as it will significantly impact its taste and texture.

8. When filling your brandy snaps baskets with whipped cream or other sweet fillings, be sure not to fill them more than an hour before consuming them as the snaps may get soggy over time.

By following these tips and being patient during preparation, you will be able to create a batch of mouth-watering Gluten-free Brandy Snaps that your loved ones will adore.
